Notes
A system for capturing, retaining, revisiting, and learning from information over time. Rich notes, Kindle synchronization, note import, and scheduled review emails â not just a note archive.
Knowledge that returns to you over time.
Most note tools make capture easy and retrieval hard. Notes fill up, organization becomes its own project, and the knowledge you accumulated becomes effectively inaccessible. Habitus notes are designed differently: capture, import, and organize once â then let the system resurface valuable knowledge to you on a schedule.
Scheduled note review emails periodically surface notes from your collection, so valuable ideas, insights, and knowledge you captured months ago don't disappear into an archive. This is a core differentiator of the Habitus notes system.
Start capturing notesYour notes come back to you.
Habitus sends scheduled note review emails that surface previously captured notes at useful intervals. Notes you wrote months ago â ideas, insights, quotes, observations â reappear in your inbox at the right moment.
This transforms the notes system from a static archive into an active long-term memory. Rather than knowledge disappearing after capture, it continues to circulate and contribute to your thinking over time.
- Receive scheduled emails surfacing past notes
- Support long-term retention and recollection
- Rediscover insights you'd forgotten you captured
- Build a personal knowledge system rather than a static archive
Bring your highlights in.
Habitus supports Kindle synchronization â import your Kindle highlights and notes directly into your personal knowledge collection. The books you read and the passages you marked don't have to live in isolation.
Note import allows you to bring in notes from other sources and systems, consolidating your knowledge in one place. Once imported, notes are subject to the same scheduled review process as anything else you've written â your highlights circulate back to you over time, just like your own notes.
Why markdown.
Notes in Habitus are written in Markdown. This is a deliberate choice: Markdown keeps the format simple, portable, and readable even as plain text. Your notes don't depend on Habitus to be usable â they're just text.
The editor supports full GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM): headings, lists, bold, italic, blockquotes, inline code, code blocks, tables, and task lists. The rendered view displays your note in a clean, readable typographic layout.
Working with notes.

Read and edit
Open any note to read it in the rendered view. Press E to enter edit mode. Press Cmd/Ctrl + S to save without leaving the keyboard.
Receive review emails
Habitus will periodically send you notes from your collection via scheduled review emails. Past insights resurface automatically â you don't have to go looking for them.
Work faster without the mouse.

Getting the most from notes.
- Don't organize â search instead. Folders and tags create maintenance overhead. Good note titles and keyword-rich content make search more effective than any taxonomy.
- Import your Kindle highlights. The books you read deserve to exist in your personal knowledge collection â not only in Amazon's ecosystem.
- The scheduled review emails do the work of resurfacing. You don't need to manually revisit â the system brings past knowledge back when appropriate.
- Use the random note feature between review emails to discover what's been on your mind. Often the most valuable knowledge is something you captured and forgot.
